Introduction

 

Hello fellow classmates! My name is Delicia Apodaca (above is a recent photo of me). You can call me delicia (deh-lee-see-uh). I’m majoring in Art Education K-12, I plan on becoming the art teacher at Fountain International Magnet School once I get my degree.  I can’t really say I have a relationship with museums but I am really excited to learn about a great deal of them. I can’t say I am aware of the debates around them either. “Museums are not Neutral : We Are Stronger Together” summarizes that museums aren’t impartial places. The t-shirt movement urges people to recognize and confront power imbalances and biases in museums more inclusive.

    Hi, Delicia! I'm also interested in art and museums, but don't have a very strong relationship with them. I've been to the Denver Museum and work for the university archives, but beyond that, not much. The debates around museums focus mainly on the issues of repatriation and representation, which are something I think we'll learn a lot more about this semester.

  I wanted to focus on diversity and inclusion in museums. “Researchers in the United States, United Kingdom and Israel found empirical evidence that museums in general lag behind other social institutions in regards to accommodating people living with disabilities such as wheelchair users, the visually challenged, and hearing impaired.” Lots of museums claim DEAI. Diversity, equity, accessibility ,inclusion and anti-racism. Although they claim it, most lack these characteristics on a daily basis.
